Workshop: School of the future and the energy of tomorrow: how the region’s economy is changing

  • Training and workshops

What will the economy of the future look like and where will we obtain energy in a dozen or several dozen years? Is it possible to combine technological development with care for the natural environment? During the workshop ‘School of the future, energy of the future. How the region’s economy is changing’, primary school students will try to find answers to these questions.

The meeting will begin with an educational presentation showing the energy transformations taking place in Poland and Europe. Students will learn how the economic model previously based mainly on fossil fuels has been changing in recent years and why renewable energy sources such as wind, solar energy or biomass are playing an increasingly important role.

During the classes, participants will also learn about examples of the transformation of industrial regions that are gradually transforming their economies by investing in new technologies and environmentally friendly solutions. Thanks to this, students will see that energy changes do not concern only major national strategies but also influence the everyday lives of residents of cities and regions.

An important element of the meeting will be a discussion about air quality and about how decisions concerning the production and consumption of energy influence people’s health and the condition of the natural environment. Students will also learn about new professions emerging in connection with the energy transition and what competencies may prove particularly important in the economy of the future.

The second part of the event will take the form of an interactive team game. In the large-format educational game ‘Clean energy’, students will take on the roles of planners responsible for the energy development of the region. During the game they will make decisions concerning investments in different energy sources, answer questions and solve tasks related to environmental protection and economic development.

The workshops show that the modern economy is increasingly based on solutions inspired by nature and the responsible use of resources. Educating the younger generation is one of the most important elements of this change.

The event is implemented as part of the LIFE project ‘Silesia. Blue Sky Restored’.

Host: Magdalena Kopeć, eco-manager of the Godów Municipality.
