Communications and marketing coordinator, Bio-distretto delle Lame

Davide Giuseppe Colasanto is the Communications and Marketing coordinator of the Bio-Distretto delle Lame, an organic agricultural district uniting farmers, businesses, institutions and citizens across four municipalities in the Murge area of Apulia, southern Italy.

After several years between Paris and New York — where he worked as a professor and researcher in contemporary European cultural history at the City University of New York — he returned in 2020 to Apulia, his home region, to start over from the land: building an agroecological farm and engaging in community-driven projects such as the Bio-Distretto delle Lame.

The Bio-Distretto takes its name from the Lame — the dry karst valleys that shape the landscape and channel the region's scarce water into its soils. This territory, built over millennia through the interaction of rock, water and human labour, is the foundation of the district's approach: managing the agroecosystem as a commons, promoting organic farming and agroecological practices, and rebuilding the connections between rural communities and the landscapes they inhabit.

Through this activity and daily work, the district explores how organic agriculture, territorial identity and participatory governance can together make rural areas more resilient, attractive and livable.
