Lars Midtiby is the Chief Executive Officer of the Danish Society for Nature Conservation (Danmarks Naturfredningsforening, DN), Denmark’s largest environmental organization. Appointed in 2019, he leads DN’s strategic efforts to combat the climate and biodiversity crises, protect marine ecosystems, and advocate for sustainable land use.
Lars was a key figure and negotiator in the historic "Green Tripartite" (Grøn Trepart) negotiations. This landmark agreement between the government, agricultural bodies, and environmental organizations sets a visionary path for Danish land management. It aims to significantly reduce agricultural emissions, restore dead fjords, and convert 400,000 hectares of farmland into new forests and protected nature reserves.
He brings extensive leadership and political experience to his environmental advocacy. Lars previously served as the Secretary General for the Danish Social Democrats (Danish Labour) and as the CEO of Disabled Peoples Organisations Denmark (DH).
He holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Aarhus University and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from Copenhagen Business School. His career is defined by a strong commitment to societal change, consensus-building, and bridging the gap between political strategy, economic incentives, public mobilization, and impactful environmental action.
