Astrid LADEFOGED

Astrid Ladefoged is Head of Unit for Green Transitions within the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD) at the European Commission. Her unit works on advancing systemic green transitions through research and innovation, with a particular focus on bioeconomy, circular economy, and resource efficiency. This includes supporting the goals of the European Green Deal and driving cross-sectoral innovation to promote climate neutrality and sustainability.

Ms. Ladefoged brings over 20 years of experience in European environmental and sustainability policy. Prior to her current role, she held senior positions in the Directorate-General for Environment, including leading units responsible for the Sustainable Development Goals, green finance, economic analysis, and planetary common goods. She has also served in DG Climate Action and as a member of the cabinet of former Environment Commissioner Karmenu Vella.

Her background spans policy-making at both national and European levels, including work in ministries and a think tank, giving her a broad and pragmatic understanding of integrating environmental priorities into economic and social agendas.
