Open day: visit the aquatic warblers in Lithuania

  • Info days

Don't miss this unique opportunity to witness up close how conservation investments are helping restore the population of the globally endangered Aquatic Warblers in the Zuvintas Biosphere Reserve - a living example of a nature-positive economy in action.

We invite you to an Open Day at the Zuvintas Biosphere Reserve Visitor Centre, where Aquatic Warbler chicks are being carefully reared as part of an international conservation initiative co-funded by the European Union under the LIFE programme. These young birds play a crucial role in strengthening and restoring the local population in the Zuvintas wetlands. Investing in the recovery of such keystone species is a direct contribution to building a nature-positive economy - one where biodiversity is recognised as the foundation of long-term ecological and economic resilience.

As part of these efforts, translocation is used to relocate chicks from stable populations to suitable habitats, helping to re-establish and reinforce populations in areas where the species has declined. Before their release into the wild, visitors will have the rare chance to observe the chicks, learn about the species, and gain insight into the methods used to protect and recover this threatened bird.

Participants will also be able to explore the Visitor Centre exhibition, take part in birdwatching activities from an observation tower and along a nature trail, and engage directly with conservation experts.

This event is especially relevant for farmers, land managers, environmental professionals, and anyone interested in how investing in nature - through habitat restoration, species recovery programmes, and sustainable land management - can generate lasting ecological and societal value.

The Open Day offers an engaging and educational experience, combining science, conservation, and community involvement, and highlighting the importance of collaborative, investment-driven efforts to protect Europe's most endangered songbird and the wetland ecosystems it depends on.
